Say ‘no more’ to domestic violence. Gen1613 is my personal mission, placed on my heart one night in a vivid dream, as I fought the real fight. You too have a voice. Let’s use it. Together, we can do this.
‘She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”‘ Genesis 16:13
They say that one of the biggest needs of a person is to be heard. In being heard, you know that you are loved. Some of you know my story. Some of you will be shocked that you didn’t know my story. Genesis 16:13 comes from the story of Hagar. She was in fear. She fled into the desert from her mistress Sarai, who had dealt with her harshly. I can only imagine her confusion as to what to do, being caught up in circumstances that were not of her own doing. The pain, hurt, betrayal, loneliness, frustration. I knew what that was like. And I did not want that for anyone. Yet in Hagar’s darkest moment, He found her. The Lord sought HER out. She did not have to go looking for Him. The scripture does not even tell us she called out to Him. He simply showed up in the midst of her desperation and expressed His love for her. He gave her hope. She knew she was going to be OK. And so that is what I did. I was still and I waited. And He found me. The Lord let me know I was going to be OK. He told me I was His. And I had peace.
This is what I want for you. There are many who suffer silently like I did. They are all around us. On the outside they wear a smile. But inside they are fighting, tormented, fearful, hurting, lonely, and afraid. Domestic violence is very real and it comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes it is loud, but sometimes it is silent, reserved for closed doors. The Gen1613 mission is for you. It is for anyone fighting that fight in any form. God sees you. He hears you. And He wants peace for you. So here is to you. You got this. Let’s go.
